10 Useful Tractor Implements
If you use it, there are few tools as important for a big property as a tractor. They allow you to cover a great deal of ground quickly and are highly versatile, so you can use them for a number of different purposes. This is because, after you get a tractor, you can also get implements that attach to the machine to make different tasks much easier. While there are many tractor implements, we’ve highlighted 10 of the most popular ones here. Take a look and stop by FMI Equipment to let us know if there’s an implement we can help you find. We’re located in Spokane, Washington, proudly serving Deer Park, as well as Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint, Idaho.
Box Blade
Box blades are a staple for most landowners. They come with scarifiers that, when you drag it behind you, cut into the ground and then levels the dirt so you have an even top layer. And you can use it for more than just tilling dirt. It’s great for making roads and paths and even leveling gravel. It’s great for breaking up and smoothing out most materials.
Mower/Cutter
If you’re looking for some basic work, you can also find mowers and cutters to trim down fields of grass. Depending on the size of your tractor and abilities of the attachment, you can either keep manageable fields under control or you can even cut down blades over six inches in height.
Loader
Think of a loader as an attachment for an attachment. These come with long arms that allow you to put another tool on the end of it, often a bucket. This then allows you to move heavy or excessive material from one place to another with ease.
Rear Blade
A rear blade is very similar to a box blade in the sense that you use it to level material. These do not come with scarifiers so their sole purpose is to level material that’s already been loosened, but you can still use them for tasks like leveling gravel, dirt and even clearing snow.
Post Hole Digger
Post hole diggers essentially provide the service that their name implies: they dig deep, long holes in the ground. You can then use these holes to put in fence posts or you can also use it as an auger to plant bushes and trees.
Snowblower
While walk-behind snowblowers are good for short driveways, you’ll need something a little bigger as the amount of snow you need to clear grows, either in height or in overall surface area. That’s why snowblower implements are also a popular, and handy, tool for people with large properties or long driveways.
Land Plane
Yet another great way to level loose material, land plane attachments are slightly longer and include two separate planes that sift through the material to ensure it’s well broken up and completely level. This will give you more control and finer results.
Rotary Tiller
For true tilling power, you’ll want to turn to a rotary tiller. The tines on these attachments cut deep into the soil to give you soil that’s easy to work with. They’ll give you more elbow grease than some of the earlier mentioned attachments so you can get to planting seeds and starts.
Pallet Fork
Not all pallets need to be unloaded in a warehouse. There are plenty of outdoor properties that would greatly benefit from using their tractor and a pallet fork to lift and move large, heavy items around the yard. This will probably be more useful for professional businesses instead of private owners, but they can be invaluable to people who will need them.
Spreader
Finally, with all these options to break up loose dirt and dig holes, your tractor won’t leave you to fend for yourself when all this is said and done. Invest in a spreader, which looks like a large funnel that gets filled with material that you can spread over a large area, whether that be salt, seeds, or soil. The material gets funneled into a spinning wheel that then shoots out the debris behind the tractor in an evenly dispersed layer.
This doesn’t cover everything, but it should cover enough to give you an idea of what you can accomplish with the right upgrades to your tractor. Now, if you need both the tractor and the attachments, stop by FMI Equipment in Spokane, WA! We proudly serve all of Spokane Valley as well as our neighbors in Coeur d’Alene, ID.
